The Training Rim - Blurb

About Us

Here at the Training Rim, we have the most educated and experienced trainers in the area, bar none.  We collectively hold more degrees, certifications, and experience than any staff you’ll find, making us THE ONLY choice for your personal training needs.  We focus on getting our clients to move more efficiently, period.  This tenet, combined with our knowledge of bio-mechanics and functional movement, allows us to train any client, anywhere, any time. With improved functional movement, your goals can be more easily attained whether they be athletic enhancement, injury rehabilition or aesthetic improvement.

Jon Rimmer:

Jon has been a personal trainer for nearly a decade and holds a Masters Degree in Exercise Science with a specialty in Sport Performance and Injury Prevention.  He holds or has held 5 training certifications, 3 of them advanced credentials through NASM.  He’s trained people from all walks of life including several NCAA division I athletes, pageant winners, senior citizens, and everyone in between.  He has a background in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing and is the kettle bell instructor here at The Training Rim.

Dina Cardinale:

Dina has been training her clientele for 4 years and is a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as well as a Certified Personal Trainer through NASM.  She is currently completing her Corrective Exercise Specialist advanced certification through NASM as well.  In addition to being a fitness role model and inspiration to all of us, she’s also the mother of three girls.

Melissa Gissubel:

Melissa has been training a wide spectrum of people for almost two years now.  In that time, she’s collected several certifications including the advanced credentials of Performance Enhancement Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM.  She is also currently completing her Masters Degree in Exercise Science, to be completed in December ‘08.

Some of Our Training Philosophies:

  • Statistically, over half of gym members are overweight. Over 80% will suffer from joint pain (knee, back or shoulder) at some point during their gym tenure. Therefore, we must acknowledge the fact that the vast majority of what occurs in gyms is not only useless, but harmful.

  • The vast majority of fitness information is given by people who have an interest in your money, not people who have an interest in your results. Magazines, gym and equipment sales people, diet books, etc. mostly tell you what you want to hear, not what you need to know.

  • Everyone needs to be trained move more efficiently - it’s that simple. Every positive physical change - performance enhancement, health, or aesthetics - comes from this.

  • The sitting position in itself causes dysfunction throughout the joints of the kinetic chain. Therefore, exercising in a sitting or supported position is ineffectual at best, and potentially harmful.

  • The training modality of muscle isolation is a colossal waste of time. Nothing can be gained from a bicep curl, that can’t be gained from a lunge to curl to shoulder press. Integrated, total body movements should always be used when training.

  • All people - from Olympic athletes to grandparents - need to improve their stability, strength and power. Therefore, we should all be trained with those goals in mind. Adjustments are made for degree of difficulty and intensity of exercise only.

  • Ignorance of posture and its effect on performance is one of the most overlooked aspects of fitness. If the wheels on your car were all pointed in different directions, the car would barely move, regardless of how hard you hit the pedal. Concurrently, if your ankles, knees, hips, and back, shoulders are all moving indifferent directions, your body will perform poorly, and will eventually break down.

  • The more we learn, the more we should realize how little we know.  We all need to keep this in mind when training.

  • Your metabolism is a CHOICE.  Yes, we all have genetics that factor into the equation.  However, regardless of what your metabolism is, it can be improved through consistent, intense exercise.

  • The gravitational pull you have toward the earth is information for which you’ll never have a use. Hence, our feelings about scales…
